A note from Dad.
Once a week, I want to sit with my children and help them understand one Bible lesson. Not a long sermon. Just one story, one big idea, and some time together with crayons.
So I started making my own lessons. My daughter loves comic books, so the story is told like a comic. I am starting with the New Testament, one chapter at a time, using the J.B. Phillips translation.
This is the first one: *Matthew chapter 1*.

What is inside
The lesson is 4 pages. It prints on 2 sheets of paper, front and back.
Page 1 and 2 are the comic story. Joseph is worried, but he is a good man and he is gentle with Mary. An angel comes in his dream. Joseph wakes up and obeys God. Baby Jesus is born.
Page 2 also explains what sin is, in a way a small child can hold on to: sin is like missing the target. God's way is the bullseye. Everyone misses sometimes, and that is why God sent Jesus.
Page 3 is about God's promise. Kids trace the names Jesus and Immanuel, and play a "Kind like Joseph?" game. It also tells them they can always talk to Mom or Dad about anything.
Page 4 has the memory verse with hand motions, a coloring picture of baby Jesus, and a short prayer.
Download and print
Print it two-sided, and choose "flip on long edge." Grab some crayons, and you are ready.
"Immanuel" means "God with us." (Matthew 1:23)
If you use this with your own children, I hope it gives you a sweet moment together. More chapters are coming.
Scripture quotations are from The New Testament in Modern English by J.B. Phillips. This lesson is free for personal and family use.
